about Marvin

Hey there friend! Thanks for stopping by, it’s great to have you here!

MarvinMy wife and I started Intrepid Motion to share our passion for courageous living with everyone who is hungry for change in their life.  We’ve learned that the courage to set things in motion is the most important quality in starting on the path to a fulfilling life.

“Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.”  –Benjamin Disraeli

I’ve experienced some major upheaval in life the past 5 years, and it has given me new insights into living life to the fullest and exercising the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness.  Through my experiments in personal development, starting businesses and traveling the world meeting amazing people, one thing is clear:  Happiness doesn’t just happen, it requires action!

I’ve helped dozens of people in my local community to do everything from running their first marathon to overcoming emotional or mental barriers.  My friends always call me “Coach”, which I’m flattered to receive, but the truth that I’ve learned is that we are each our own best coach in the game of life.  All we really need is someone to help point us in the right direction.

While working full-time jobs, my wife and I started our first business in 2006 during the height of the real estate boom.  The days were long and tough…but every minute of the experience was worth it.   We turned a profit a year later, even with the industry teetering on the edge of collapse.  With the writing on the wall signaling the end, we exited the business, and refocused our efforts on self-improvement while contemplating what our next entrepreneurial pursuit would be.

In 2008, I completed four triathlons(two of them Olympic-distance) in a single year.  What I was most proud of that year was that I successfully coached my wife to complete two triathlons herself, and inspired her to go on and complete a full marathon the following year.

I was laid off from my product marketing job in the Silicon Valley in 2009.  It was a painful time.  The company to which I had given nearly ten years of my life to help build suddenly decided it didn’t need me.  As tough as it was to endure the reality of it, the loss of my job set the stage for one of the most transformative chapters of my life.

“Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward. –Henry Ford

I went on that same year to complete the Ford Ironman triathlon, a race consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, 180-mile bike ride, and ending with a 26.2-mile marathon.  All this while coaching a group of athletes to complete the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco.  I got healthier too.  I shed 20 pounds of weight, lowered my cholesterol, and improved my overall well-being and outlook on life.

A defining moment in my life. On Nov. 5, 2009 I completed the Ironman triathlon.

The series of events in that single year helped me to find my purpose in life:  to bring awareness to everyone that your greatest dreams and desires for a fulfilling life are possible when you take courageous action in the face of uncertainty and impossible odds.

In the past two years, my wife and I have been running our second business coaching endurance sports.  We’ve helped over 100 athletes achieve their goals in events ranging from marathons, family triathlon camps, and on up to half and full-distance Ironman events.  My role has expanded from being not only a fitness coach, but also into coaching personal growth and coping skills.

We’ve also started to live our dream of traveling the world together, and sharing our passion with everyone we meet.  I am here to share experiences and lessons to inspire you to make positive changes in your life.  My wife and I are living one of our biggest dreams of traveling the world.  Whether you aspire to do the same, or if you have a bigger dream and a different path in your life, the power to make it happen lies within you.
